The northern portion of the Nile River divides the desert in this SeaWiFS image collected last month. Kharthoum and the confluence of the White Nile and Blue Nile are at the very bottom of the image.A dust storm can be seen obscuring the ground over northern Saudi Arabia. This is a detail image of the sandstorm blowing from northwest Africa. The southern edge of the storm is blasting the Canary Islands off the western coast of Morocco. An intense winter storm raced across the Mediterranean on November 13 and 14, 2004. Gale-force winds sank three ships off Algiers, Algeria, and heavy rain drenched the country. Overnight, the storm moved north to Italy and the Adriatic Sea. All of the Great Lakes are cloud free in this SeaWiFS image. The bright band along the southern shore of Lake Michigan is still evident.
